Art Holidays

All remaining 2019 holidays have limited places left

28th June-6th July – Netherlands, proving popular already, we will be based in the North of Holland, north of Amsterdam, and will visit the colourful fishing village of Volendam to sketch and sample the smoked eel, and pickled herring (though as a vegetarian I’ll just watch the rest of you!). We will also be spending some time in Zaanse Schans to sketch the eighteenth-century windmills and houses and taste some famous cheese (mmm, cheese).

As our time in Amsterdam will be mostly be taken up at the Rijksmuseum we will also sketch in the quieter but equally as beautiful town of Haarlem, often dubbed “little Amsterdam.

Our last port of call for a completely different atmosphere will be the stunning Texel Island. The largest and most populated of the West Frisian Islands it offers a landscape of sweeping sand dunes, salt marshes filled with lavender, and beaches lined with bungalows.

14 – 21st September Faro, Portugal (Portugal was so popular last year we have decided to offer a venue further South than last time near Faro in 2019)

The beautiful coast of the Algarve has always been a popular destination for many travellers because of its breathtaking cliffs, golden beaches, scalloped bays and sandy islands. Located on the Atlantic Ocean much of the nation’s architecture dates to the 1500s–1800s, when Portugal had a powerful maritime empire. The scenic city of Faro with its old walled town and historic monuments are a testament to the Moorish influence on the city.

During the week we will also visit Tavira, one of the loveliest towns in the eastern Algarve and Silves which offers an intriguing glimpse into Portugal’s cultural past. Only 2 rooms left

12th-19th October 2019 – Cornwall

Southern Cornwall offers many of opportunities to sketch and paint. From its magnificent manor houses and stunning tropical gardens to idyllic cosy fishing ports or rugged western coastline with pounding surf, students will never be far from a source of inspiration.

The artistic heritage of the region is also legendary and during the week we will look at the painting history of St Ives and Newlyn schools.

Perfectly located between both the East and West shores of South Cornwall, our base for the week will provide an ideal opportunity for you to immerse yourselves in the beauty of the county that Poldark has recently brought to our screens.

There has already been a great deal of interest in this trip so early booking is strongly advised now ONLY ONE ROOM left.

Glasgow is famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture, a rich legacy of the city’s 18th–20th-century prosperity due to trade and shipbuilding. Today it’s a national cultural hub home to many acclaimed museums and a mecca for art lovers.

Staying just outside the city we will sketch and paint in the wonderful landscape that surrounds this thriving city and have the best of worlds as we dive into the city for some urban sketching and cultural immersion in the city’s art scene.

October 8 – 17th –  9 days in Morocco 765  4 places left

Morocco with Diane King

In this 9-day exceptional residential art holiday, we will base ourselves in the stunning coastal city of Essaouira. Portuguese, French and Berber architecture frame the maze-like streets. Essaouira is protected by a natural bay partially shielded by the Iles Purpuraires. This blue seaside town combines some of the best of what Morocco has to offer great food and vibrant culture in a chilled atmosphere that isn’t as prominent in other parts of the country. Essaouira is renowned for its resident painters and artists attracted to the city by the beautiful natural surroundings and quality of light.

Marrakech, which will be on our itinerary for the first two nights of the holiday, provides a chance to dive into the famous souks for some bargains and visit the colourful Jardin Majorelle.
